Longer days and warmer weather will soon be upon us. After spending several months tucked away in our homes practicing social distancing, many people are going to be anxious to get out and enjoy the summer. It’s likely social distancing may be our new normal for the foreseeable future, so here are some ideas for how to make the most of your summer, while still being budget conscious.

  1. Go backyard camping. Dust off your tent, get out the sleeping bags and light up your firepit. You can turn your backyard into the perfect camping adventure.

  1. Take advantage of the bike trails. You can spend a whole day exploring the trails around Sioux Falls. Load up your bikes and spend some time discovering new sites along the trail.

  1. Turn your yard into a water park. Water balloons, slip and slides, mini-pools, or a sprinkler can all be fairly inexpensive activities to help keep you cool while enjoying the outdoors.

  1. Go for a hike. There are several state parks around Sioux Falls that have wonderful hiking opportunities. Newton Hills State Park, Palisades State Park and Good Earth State Park all offer a vast array of trails for every experience level.

  1. Watch a movie outside. Outdoor projectors are becoming more popular, you can get one online for as little as $100. Pop some popcorn, grab some blankets and set up the projector to display the movie on your garage door. While this may be a little bigger upfront investment, it can provide hours of fun through the rest of the summer!

Having fun this summer shouldn’t be stressful on your budget. The beginning of 2020 may have pushed back or even canceled your exciting plans for summer, but try to make the most of the extra time you get to spend with your family.
