Meet Alexandra Juhnke. She’s a 12-year-old at Harrisburg South Middle School. Alexandra is not your ordinary teen, in fact, she’s setting an example to other kids her age that they can make a difference in their community in so many ways.
Alexandra has volunteered over 150 hours this past year for various organizations and events across the Sioux Empire! Her focus has been with the Sioux Falls Area Humane Society and the Great Plains Zoo. Her passion doesn’t stop there. She also took it upon herself to organize two fundraisers for a classmate who was injured in an ATV accident. She was able to raise over $4,000 for the family.
She has also been active with the American Heart Association, the Harrisburg Community Library, the Junior Leaders Group for the Lincoln County 4H and she’s also a member of Teens Against Tobacco use (TATU).
“I really think it's fun, it's as simple as that,” said Alexandra. “The fact that I get to meet new people and make connections from around the world and help my community is just the cherry on top.”
She shows her classmates, teachers and family that no matter what age you are, you can make a difference in your community.
