More and more we are seeing children that are stressed out. While our kids do not have to worry about bills or jobs, they experience difficulties with stress nonetheless. More time is being spent on overstimulating screens and less on physical activity. Schedules are tighter between increasingly competitive athletics and rigorous academic loads that begin earlier and earlier for young students. With our on-the-go lifestyle, there is little to no down time!
Kids do not know how to relax their bodies or their minds. They are not always able to verbalize their feelings to express their uneasiness. That tension builds and has no outlet.
Yoga calm seeks to help children discover more about themselves and find more balance within. It involves much more than yoga-based movement.
Strength, community, listening, stillness, and grounding are the 5 pillars that Yoga Calm is built upon. It brings children together in a safe and non-judging environment to enhance self-regulation, self-confidence, and self-esteem while relating and working with one another throughout.
Each session begins with a welcome and calming phase often calling on a student to lead. Social emotional activities are then incorporated and are typically followed by a short flow of yoga-based movement. Another calming phase is then completed at the end of session and often consists of reflection, guided imagery, breathing techniques, and/or a story relating to the overall theme of the Yoga Calm session.
This truly is powerful work which engages a child’s heart, mind, and body and creates space for feeling at home within oneself and amongst others.
