The Wizard of Oz
Autism & Sensory-Friendly Production
The LifeScape Center for the Arts and Black Hills Playhouse are excited to provide one of the first autism and sensory-friendly theatre productions in the Sioux Falls area! Our show will take into account many of the sensory issues that individuals with autism and other disorders face which may prevent them from comfortably attending a theatre production. Some things to expect at this performance: •Planned interaction between the performers and the audience •Times for the audience to move as a part of the show •Lighting will be kept higher and volumes will be lower •Opportunities to come see the theatre in advance, meet some characters in costume, and experience what the space feels like before the day of the show •Quiet room will be provided •Fidgets will be provided This American favorite will be collaboratively produced with the LifeScape Center for the Arts, Dakota Players, Washington Pavilion’s DAPA (Dakota Academy of Performing Arts), and the Augustana University Theatre Department. Our 50-plus cast members are of all ages and all abilities. We strive to make our theatre experiences a safe and nurturing environment for individuals who have found barriers to their participation in the past. We have worked alongside numerous performers over the past few years who have taken their first steps onto the big stage and have since found their “voice,” their confidence, and their friends--right there in the theater!
