Good Nutrition for Back to School

School is here and our growing kids need to be fueled properly. Not only is this good for their bodies, but for their minds as well. A healthy diet and being adequately hydrated will only benefit them in the classroom.

When packing lunches, I make sure to keep it as fresh and healthy as possible. This means limiting the pre-packaged, processed foods and filling their little tummies with fresh fruit, vegetable, good protein sources and WATER!!

Our kids need water, not juice or pop, WATER and lots of it. A good rule of them, for both kids and adults, is to drink HALF your weight in ounces each day.

We have to make sure that whatever we put in our children’s bodies, that we make it count. We can’t afford to put loads of sugar, preservatives, and dyes into their bodies and expect them to function at an optimal level. Involve your kids in the grocery shopping and lunch planning. Ask them to pick a fruit and vegetable that they would like, have fun experimenting with new foods as well. Did you know that most people eat the same 15 foods year round. I challenge you to keep track, as a family, the variety of foods you eat. How many different types of vegetable, fruits, beans, proteins sources are you eating each week! Make it fun!

Good nutrition will have a lasting effect on your children and only benefit them, so as you pack their lunches this school year, keep that in mind!
