2016 Mommy Gets Fit

Due to some very difficult, and unforeseen circumstances, Tara Copple had to pause her role as ‘Hood’s Mommy Gets Fit winner. Koko FitClub graciously offered to allow Tara the chance to get back on her feet and finish her journey at a later time.

 
There were other Mommy Get’s Fit applicants who decided to start their weight loss health journey despite not being chosen. Koko FitClub has been a great fit for moms like Amanda Deelstra and others, who have made amazing progress!


Congratulations are in order for Amanda Deestra as she chose to take on the challenge of Mommy Gets Fit at Koko FitClub Sioux Falls. She’s finishing up her summer and continues taking the necessary steps toward a healthier lifestyle. When Amanda was asked to step up to the Mommy Gets Fit Challenge, she received a full membership to Koko FitClub, digital and personal coaching and the Better Body System from Yoli. Throughout the last few months, she has made incredible progress and now she’s sharing her story. Amanda’s journey to fitness can surely motivate all of us to persue healthier lifestyles of our own!

How did Amanda do?
Jessica: “She’s amazing! I would say out of everyone in the club, she’s the most inspiring!”
Amber: “She’s super dedicated, motivated, and comes in with no excuses!”
Koko knows how hard it can be to get in your workout when you’re raising kids, it can be exhausting, but Amanda does it anyway.
 
What can you say about Amanda’s dedication?
Amber: “She applied, didn’t win initially and still came in. She dedicated herself to getting fit and made time for herself, without any other incentives other than health goals.”
 
What’s been the most rewarding part of sponsoring this challenge?
Amber: “It was really interesting to interview these moms and see their reasons for not going to the gym. Some can’t even walk in because they don’t know what to do and they don’t feel comfortable. We have a unique ability to really offer an answer for someone in that position.”
Jessica: “I love seeing someone fulfill why I opened the gym. Our vision was to have a place for women who wouldn’t go to the big box gym. This is the place they can come to feel comfortable and motivated.”
 
Do you have advice for other moms?
Amber: “Walk in the door and take the first step. That’s why we’re here. Sioux Falls didn’t need another gym, but they needed a Koko.”

Why did you want to do the challenge?
“I knew back in February. I remember feeling miserable, I hated how I looked, and I was uncomfortable. I decided when I was filling out the application for the challenge that I was going to do this whether I win or not.” Amanda kept to her word, and despite the fact that she was not originally the winner of the Mommy Gets Fit Challenge, she began Yoli and signed up for the gym. 
 
What’s been your favorite part so far?
“Clothes fitting better is always a fun part. I feel good, I feel healthy, and I feel strong.  I never wanted to be skinny, I wanted to be fit and strong. Feeling strong makes you feel good about yourself.”
 
The clothes Amanda wore for the photoshoot were provided by Paisley Pod. Paislely Pod is a mobile boutique owned by three sisters from Brandon. They travel to vendor shows and events across the area bringing the latest styles.

 
What’s been the biggest challenge?
“The biggest challenge is just getting up early, I’ve never been a morning person, I never wanted to be a morning person. But one morning while driving, I realized this is the only time I get to myself and I need to enjoy it. It didn’t take long to get used to it and now I get up before the alarm.”

 
Do you have a favorite exercise?
“I love my really heavy strength days. That’s my all time favorite. I want to lift heavy!” When it comes to the gym itself, Amanda says, “I always loved anything that was fast and efficient. This is fast, effective, and only 45 minutes. This is what every mom needs, or dad for that matter.”
 

What is your favorite healthy treat?
“The Yoli protein bars! They are so good! It’s like a cookie and the kids even love them.”
 

How has your family supported you?
“My husband goes in late to work. He sacrifices that time in the morning so I can workout, and my kids are supportive no matter what!”

 
Do you have any advice for other moms?

“I think the biggest thing is just starting. Putting one foot in front of the other, make small changes at first if you have to. Ask for help and ask people to support you. I think that’s probably why I started even though I didn’t win, because I had people willing to support me.


 
The selection pool for our 2016 Mommy Gets Fit Challenge was the largest it has ever been, and we met with many amazing candidates. While we would have loved to take on everyone who applied, we could only pick one. While Amanda has made outstanding strides toward her fitness goals, she’s not the only one who’s been perusing a healthier lifestyle. A couple women, despite not being chosen for the challenge, took it upon themselves to make a change for the better. Terra Roth and Lindsey Uthe are busy moms who also hope to inspire other moms who are looking to live a healthier lifestyle.

 
Meet the Moms:

 
Lindsey Uthe is a stay at home mom who runs Brick Photography in downtown Sioux Falls.

Lindsay and her husband Jason have two boys, Lucas (5) and Elias (2). In her free time she enjoys taking photos of landscapes and doing art with her two boys.

 
Roth Family

 













Terra Roth is also a stay at home mom who sells origami jewelry on the side. In her free time, she enjoys being with her family. Terra and her husband Mike are a busy family with six children. Her oldest is Seventeen and her youngest is three.’

 
You were not chosen for Mommy Gets Fit, What made you decide to do it on your own?

 
Lindsey: “I decided that I still needed to do this for myself even if I wasn't being followed by lots of people to hold me accountable. Koko has been such a huge motivator for me. They hold me accountable for my workouts and always have a smiling face when I walk through the door.”

 
Terra: “My friend Ashley, she goes to Koko, she offered me a free 30 day trial; I thought why not I’ll give it a shot, plus she wouldn’t leave me alone until I tried.”

 
What has been your favorite part?

 
Lindsey: “My favorite part has been seeing the results for my hard work! I have lost 20 pounds and 30 inches.”

 
Terra: “I can tell I am getting stronger. I think I like that the best. When I started I couldn’t even do the full 15 on the elliptical, but now I can so that feels good.”

 
What was the biggest challenge and how did you overcome it?

 
Lindsey: “Well, about a month in I found out that I had a cracked L4 vertebrate and that was causing my hips to compensate for my back and they would go out of place and be extremely painful (couldn't walk). I had to take a break completely for two weeks. But, during that time I kept my eating under control following the Yoli plan. When I came back I was able to do weights every other day, but I am still not able to do cardio. Funny thing is I am still seeing results not being able to do cardio! Yay for Koko and Yoli!”

 
Terra: “I was my biggest challenge, and I think I overcame it with the support of my husband, kids and Koko fit. I couldn’t do a lot of this stuff in the beginning and they encouraged me!”

 
Do you have a favorite exercise?

 
Lindsey: “I have got to say squats for this one. I'm pretty proud of myself being able to lift the whole stack for squats.”

 
Terra: “I really enjoy the elliptical. Which is funny because at first I dreaded it, I didn’t try it until I was forced to because all the treadmills were being used one day!”

 
Do you have favorite healthy treat?

 
Lindsey: “My favorite healthy treat is the Quest Cookie Dough protein bars. They taste like actual cookie dough! Yummy!”

 
Terra: “I discovered those Kind Granola bars, those are good. The salted Carmel one that is my favorite!”

 
Do you have any advice for other moms?

 
Lindsey: “It is so hard! But, it is so worth it! Having a supportive family or friends is extremely important as well. In order for me to get to the gym I need to go early in the morning (I am NOT a morning person). It has been one of the best decisions I have made. For a long time I used to go in the evening and then I had my second baby and by the time evening rolled around I was ready for bed, not to work out. So, a lot of workouts got skipped. I always look at working out as "me time". I enjoy it and it gets me at least an hour to myself everyday.”

 
Terra: “It’s not as hard as it seems. It seems silly, but I dreaded getting started, once I did it was awesome.”
